Tony telling me how to operate a TV (1940s but in colour). [Diagram: Screen marked ‘very bright coloured picture’. Knob to the right: ‘tuner’. Main knob marked ‘main knob’.]

Standing behind the bar at the Crown and Anchor [in Shoreham]. Gay barman there. This old man comes in and says to me, ‘These daytrips – do they go from Littlehampton?’ He has a brochure entitled ‘Salisbury’. He shuffles money and says, ‘How many tickets can you give me for 50p?’ ‘There’s a reduction for G.L.s’ the barman says. ‘OAPs if you don’t mind,’ the old man says indignantly.
[I worked on the promotion of Sealink ferries, but
never behind a bar. No idea what GLs are.]
Above, th Crown and Anchor, Shoreham; below, me advertising Sealink crossings on Brighton beach, that summer.

Sitting with David, our arms around each other. Very embarrassed – trying to get away.
Monday 15 September 1975
Dreamt of the UEA girl Fiona from Brighton. Saw her in
Brighton yesterday. [The second sentence a comment; I usually have not
transcribed such.]

Sunday 14 September 1975
Standing on a seashore with Persephone
(Holst, that is).
Saturday 13 September 1975
Dreamt of the ultimate ecstasy. A giant wave
(soundless) – a mile high – swept over me and broke upon me and carried me with
it. The ultimate ecstasy.
What a dream!
Friday 12 September 1975
Tony with a big pack on his back goes through doorway. ‘Let the black man go through first,’ I say.
Big battle brewing.
Wednesday 10 September 1975
MM calls but I’m assured it’s not homosexual business.
Three of us waiting. Drinking wine. Putting DOPE in
it. A man is watching. He leaves. I go too. I think he’s going to the LAW.
I go
too along the side of Victorian tenements. The other two follow me closely.
We
were waiting for Maggie to give birth.
Monday 8 September 1975
Walking with Trudy along Brighton seafront. I know
she’s still going out with Anton. That doesn’t matter. We hold hands. I bend her
backwards on the promenade railing.
As we
are kissing, a cricketer passes and makes a dirty remark.
I
say, ‘Go play your stupid game with my father.’
[Dad was a cricketer!]

Friday 5 September 1975
Dreamt of reading a book and seeing a film of it at the same time. It’s a D.H. Lawrence bookfilm and Trevor Howard is in it,
A big-breasted pregnant [lecturer] Doris McNabb is
pointed out to me by her hubby.
[Odd, I know people who know him now. I didn’t then!]
