Dream Diary Thursday 1 January 1976 and Final Remarks

Bonus entry: Thursday 1 January 1976

Maggie in classroom. So am I. At desks. Very old classroom from Junior School. There is a middle aged man in a suit next to her talking. Then a smooth trendy [a recognisable mid-70s type, if there ever was!] comes in and sits by her. ‘You great big soft tit’ I yell.

Dreamt of lots of minute (larvae) goldfish in the drinking water.

And, so, gentle reader, the diary fizzles out, putting one tentative toe into the following year. In 1976 I decided to carry on recording dreams, and I came up with the scheme of relating them in my ordinary journal, without demarcation or distinction, so seamless at times that it isn’t clear what’s what. Dreams can be of quite quotidian matters; reality can (and was in 1976) quite startling and ‘surreal’ in its unexpectedness. But it is now time to leave the sleeping Sheppard. The diary contains a few notes for poems, a list of ‘recurrences’ that I want to bypass, and that final, almost hidden, ‘title’ for the unwritten collection: the solipsist’s headparty.

An introduction to the diary project may be read here: Pages: Dream Diary 1975 Introduction to the project.

The whole has been collated, edited, and adjusted here, as a single text, and will be posted on this blog in 2 days' time! (Except the above entry, actually! I did say it was a 'bonus', and it is.)
